aortic valve replacement surgery unable to be completed

Post a new topicby bigwill1845 on Mon Nov 23, 2009 4:51 pm

My partner of 37 years (a woman of 82 years of age) recently had open heart surgery to replace her aortic heart valve. After opening her chest, it was found that her aorta was too calcified to be clamped to do the work on her valve. Her chest was closed and she is recuperating from the surgery fine except that she still has the shortness of breath from the stenosis of her aortic valve. Does anyone have experience with this and have any ideas of what can be done or alternate strategies. Although 82 my partner is (was) extremely active until a month ago. Thank you.
