Married Couple AF

Post a new topicby MSwlaf on Sat May 02, 2009 2:43 pm

About a year ago and at this same time, my wife began to complain about AF symptoms. She saw our family physician and a specialist. They confirmed her symptoms (she had the portable heart rate monitor recorder harness) and recommended atrioventricular (AV) node ablation. She is terrified of medical procedures and decided to wait a while. She reduced her caffeine intake as much as humanly possible. We continued to exercise as we normally would. It did eventually get better and almost completely disappeared (SO GLAD WE DECIDED AGAINST THE AV). At that time, I didn't want to mention it to her but I was having the same symptoms. I just thought that I shouldn't influence her decision to see the doctor or lesson the severity of the way she felt about her symptoms. I did eventually tell her after she had visited the specialist and was considering the atrioventricular (AV) node ablation. Mine also went away over time. So, here is the puzzling part..... It is the same time of year again and we are both having the same thing!!!! This time we told each other as soon as we noticed the symptoms. We started on the exact same day with the same types of symptoms. Now, we have to figure out what external influence is causing this. We noticed a few things that occur around this time. We just used our air conditioning for the fist time this year around that time. We did some outside landscaping for the first time last weekend (no chemicals just weed pulling, mulch etc.). Has anyone else had anything similar? We desperately need to find the cause. It was sever enough for a specialist to suggest atrioventricular node ablation. It's just too coincidental to be internal.

Just wanted to update....

So , it's a month later. Again, all of the symptoms are gone. It lasted about one week this time. The symptoms seemed to last about a month last time (long enough for my wife to see a physician and a specialist). What if she/we had opted for a surgical procedure that was unnecessary and irreversible? It's just scary that a specialist scheduled such a procedure so easily without trying anything else or giving it a second thought.
We are still interested in hearing anything from anyone with a similar experience.
