Gen. Anathesia for heart cath?

Post a new topicby pickford on Fri Feb 27, 2009 11:48 pm

Hello! I will be going for a heart cath on March 5th.I have a very experienced DR who will be performing this procedure.I have had SVTs PSVTs for almost 10 years and been DX(within a years time) with moderate pulmonary hypertension LV diastolic dysfunction, mild pulmonary fibrosis w/bronchiectasis. I also have type 2 diabetes, hypothyroidism, hypertension,I am 250 lbs at 5'1",am 53,female. My question is(and I will be asking my DR before the cath starts) why is it that my DR has chosen general anathesia instead of local and relaxation agents? Of all the ?s I asked the appt day, that one I forgot. I also have bad discs in the lower lumbar region(and other areas) and a painful broken coccyx. If you can enlighten me of why gen.anathesia is being used when the norm is local, etc., I would be very happy for your help. This cath is also to find where my heart short circuits and causes tachycardia so much and to measure pulm hypertension pressures. An ablation will be done once the area is found out. Thanks
