Scar on Heart

Post a new topicby Guest on Fri Dec 03, 2004 10:37 am

My father is 71 and has always been incredibly healthy. His parents died in their 60s and early 70s, so he has been put on Lipitor as a precaution. During a routine physical, he told the doctor of his heart-burn. The doctor was confident that that is what it was but to be safe, ordered a nuclear stress test. The test showed a "moderate scar" on his heart. She said this could be caused by heart-burn and has directed him to see a cardiologist Also, he has a reduced level of reversible oxygen. He does not ask enough questions.

I want to know what the level of danger is for this condition. Can it cause a heart attack? If so, how high is the risk? Can it just eventually make him short of breath? His doctor did prescribe Lopressor (or something like that), I believe to increase the flow of oxygen. Either way, I'm more concerned with the overall condition than I am with the medication right now.

Any input would be greatly appreciated!
