aortic valve stenosis

Post a new topicby Guest on Tue Apr 30, 2002 11:09 pm

My 80 y/o father was just diagnosed with severe aortic valve stenosis on ECHO. He has been suffering from fainting spells, chest pains, and chronic cough. He also has severe cardiovascular disease, renal failure with a creatinine of 2.9. My husband, a family practitioner, wants my dad to undergo cardiac cath and aortic valve replacement. My dad upon hearing another open heart surgery said "no more" (he had CABG in 1989). I myself would not like to subject my dad to another open heart because of his medical condition and his age. My husband is convinced surgery is the way to go, " to prolong his life". My opinion is that he might not tolerate the surgery. My dad has asked me about what i think. I have mixed feelings about the surgery. If i say no to surgery i feel like i'm just letting him suffer and die. Please help!!!!
