Chest Pain: Anxiety or MI?

Post a new topicby josephsking on Sun May 03, 2009 12:52 pm

I have been diagnosed with Generalized Anxiety Disorder and Panic Attacks, so when I have chest pain most doctors tell me that it's just anxiety and then discharge me from the Hospital. Needless to say I don't go to the hospital anymore when I get chest pain. Is there a way to tell the difference between Anxiety caused chest pain versus a true emergency like MI, aortic dissection, aortic aneurysm, Pulmonary Edema... and so on? Yesterday I had some pretty severe chest pain and it felt worse than any chest pain I've ever had before, however I still didn't go to the hospital because I don't want to get up there and have them tell me I'm fine and send me home. I chewed an aspirin, took a Xanax, gave myself an injection of Magnesium Sulfate and laid there for a couple of hours because I was so dizzy during it that I couldn't stand up and I was perspiring uncontrollably. Should I set up an appointment with a cardiologist just to make sure that everything's okay?
