I can't take seeing much more suffering!

Post a new topicby Cin1996 on Thu Oct 01, 2009 9:19 pm

My mom is 62 years old and has CHF along with diabetes. Her body is swollen and it seems the lasix isn't working too well anymore. She has severe anasarca (leg weeping) on both legs. I just recently made the decision to put her in a nursing home and I am devastated. She cries a lot and her back is so tight from the swelling that it hurts to lay down flat. I don't know what else I can do to help her. I am sad every day. She is miserable. I know she needs to be there but feel so helpless. The nursing home is a good one but I still doubt my decision. 24-hour care in the home was not an option financially. It would have cost more than the nursing home. She has no insurance and is too young for Medicare. Plus she has assets to use up first.
This is so hard on me. I lost my father when I was 19 and now this. Has anyone been through this? I am constantly trying to juggle everything and I am so tired. So sad. I can't see her suffer anymore-it hurts too bad. I need support, any kind, to get through this. I feel so alone.
