I’m a 56 year old postmenopausal women, and have always considered myself healthy. On March 10, 2007 I suffered a heart attack I was seen at our local E.R. and after determining how serious it was, they flew me via air ambulance to Kelowna General Hospital for an angiogram. The angiogram showed a spontaneous dissection of the LAD (left anterior descending) along with a 99% blockage. I was then flown to Vancouver General for the angioplasty treatment where they placed 3 stents in the L...Read the full article

I am a 64 year woman. Who was having problems and this is how they found FMD>
I too have recently found out that I have FMD... The Drs don't tell you a lot about this.. I had a brain angioplasty and they found I had FMD in each of the coradit arteries, plus I have severe FMD on the illiac artery.I don't know anyone with this, and would like to keep updated on your FMD.
I also recently had to have a pacemaker for Syncopy .The pacemaker helped the Syncopy but the heart muscle was punctured during insertion and now I have really bad pain when excerting myself or lying on either side or back.I'm still under DRS care for the pain and shortness of breath.

Dawna,

Just wanted to let you know you are not alone. My heart attack was in 2004 and was dx as FMD in the LAD at VGH. I am from Surrey and have FMD in at least 5 different arteries. There is a clinical trial in the US at the National Institute of Health called Hereditary connective tissue disorders, FMD is one of the diseases they are focusing on and the participants I have talked to said they were told estogen should not be taken whatsoever. The website for FMD is FMDSA.Org which will give you some info. I wish I could talk directly to you but am new to this site so...

Take care!

Dawna
Thanks for your reply. It's good to know that someone out there understands what you feel. So far I haven't had a heart attack ( Thank God) . My B/P is under control. It's hard to explain whats going on in my body. And you should know as you have this a lot worse the I. I can't explain how I feel, my legs get so weak and somedays I have no energy. I feel as though nothing goes right for me. And I can't seem to control my emotions..Seems crazy right.
I recently had a pacemaker put in, and the surgeon punctured my heart muscle..the pain was unbelievable. So 2 months later had to have the leads replaced. Its working great now...So since June my life has been pretty much tied up.
Would be nice to email you back and forth but I too am new to this forum. I don't know if they allow this or not. But we reply back and forth....I pray that God will watch over you and help these Drs find away to treat this wierd thing we have going on in our bodies. Thank you again for your reply..
May you be safe....Faye

PS Just found out today that my Neurologist has moved with no forwarding address. Now I'm back to explaining my problems to a new dr when I find one..LOL
