FMDHi, My name is Trish. I was diagnosed in April of this year. I have had High blood pressure since I was in my 30’s and no one ever mentioned a possiblity of checking renal arteries as a cause. I was told it runs in the family and was given meds.
For several months I kept complaining of weight gain, fatigue, and my BP was fluctuating up and down. I kept going to the doctor and complaining and being told ‘you are depressed’. I said I am getting depressed from not feeling well...Read the full article
Re: FMDHey Trish, I really know what you are going through; I had a long road of test before a neurologist suggested brain angiagram. This is so sad that they ( the Drs) aren't up on this yet. We just have to hope and pray someone will find away to help FMD patients. It's a wait and see attitude. Keep blood pressure under wraps....And the doctors will decide when we get bad enough for another test. All the drs tell me is to keep BP down. And how do they purpose to keep us from worrying? Go figure. I hope you do well... Have you ever heard the old saying If they can't find out whats wrong ( you're depressed) Well I guess we are all depressed!! LOL Keep in touch, Faye
Re: FMDHi I just read your post my daughter who is a nurse just happened to take her blood pressure when she was at work she is 22 her blood pressure was off the charts so her primary dr sent her to a heart dr and he set up some tests she has fmd and now he wants to put a stent in. I am freaking out what should we expect ? You said you had weight gain does this cause weight gain because she has been gaining weight as well?
I have read that this is very rare like 1% is this true? How have you been since your surgery any complications? Any information would be great
Re: FMDI'd be cautious with an intital decision to stent. Get a second opnion from some one who sees a lot of people with FMD - it may be a good decision to stent, but you should get another opinion... No no one ever has regretted getting a second opinion. If you want to find some one or a center who sees many people with FMD go to FMDSA.org . My Doctor is Dr. Jeffery Olin of mount sinai in new york- a great guy and perhaps the leading expert or among the top docs for FMD. The mayo clinic also has FMD interdiciplinary clinic and a great deal of expertise and respect among FMD'ers.
