Massive Heart Attack

What is the definition of massive heart attack? Can a person ever recover? My step-mother just had a massive heart attack yesterday while traveling in Italy. Since we are so far away and have no one we can ask questions, we feel so lost! What can we expect?

A massive heart attack means that a significant amount of heart muscle was affected by the event. It can result in serious complications including enlargement of the heart and congestive heart failure.
However, depending on the individual situation, sometimes excellent muscle saving tratments can be performed.
There is a world-renowned cardiologist in Milan, Dr. Antonio Colombo who also practices at Lennox Hill Hospital in NYC. You may want to try to reach Dr. Colombo by calling the cardiology dept at Lennox Hill Hospital, he may be able to help your stepmother, or direct you to the right person depending on which city your stepmother is in.
Best of Luck.
