Chronic Hypertension

Post a new topicby Guest on Wed Aug 14, 2002 9:11 pm

I'm a 78 yr. old female, and I don't smoke or drink, and I walk daily. I am on Tiazac 240 mg a day, and toprol-XL 50 mg (2) a day, and diovan HCT 160mg/25mg once a day and my blood pressure is still 202 over 80.
I have (3)questions.
(1)can you recommend some other suggestions for medication since these are not working, or is there some other cause for my continual rising in high blood pressure readings?
(2)Could you also recommend a weekly diet to try?
(3)I live in the Milwaukee, WI area, and recently moved here from Pennsylvania and have not found a doctor that seems to be really experienced with chronic high blood pressure Is there also a good Doctor for my condition that you could recommend?

Thank you,

You seem to be on a strong anti-hypertensive regimen. Nonetheless some patients respond better to other classes.
You should be evaluated for secondary causes of high blood pressure such as renal artery stenosis and some hormonal imbalances.
Contact the University Medical Center in Milwaukee, and get a referral to a hypertension specialist who are usually cardiologists or kidney specialists.
A diet rich in fruits and vegetables helps a great deal. Celery is particularly useful.
