i'm a 32 yr old male with a history of h.b.p. and m.v.p. i've been on 100mg of tenormin for some time now and cannot get pressure to drop below 155/108. at times it spikes to 220/157 for no reason. recently i've been unable to urinate more than 2 times a day and have pain in my back above the waist and feel itchy all the time ...could this be a warning sign of kidney disease or something more serious going on?

There are other clases of drugs besides beta blockers (tenormin) that can be used to optimize antihypertensive therapy.
If you have not already done so, you should be evaluated by a cardiologist or hypertension specialist in order to screen for secondary causes of high blood pressure.
