high blood pressure medication

Post a new topicby klugger39 on Mon Mar 02, 2009 4:06 pm

I need advice. I have been on High Blood Pressure Medication (Norvasc 10 mg) for just over a year now. Tests were done and nothing wrong with health. My doctor told me to bring him BP readings averaging under 140/80 to me next appt. and that would be suitable to discontinue the medication. I brought a average of 132/77 over 16 weeks. He still wanted to keep me on the pills. I am starting to believe I dont really need to be on this medication. Just wanted a second opinion on whether or not I can stop these pills on my own. It is really that dangerous to stop this medication on my own? I think my doctor is a 'pill pusher' and will keep me on these pills as long as possible......PLEASE HELP!!!

If you aren't happy with your doctor, find another. 132/77 WITH meds is good. Going off them might raise your bottom number over 80, which would not be good.

You should never go off a bp med without help from your doctor. Most require a slow retreat.
