High total cholesterol, but good individual numbers

Post a new topicby kwaerb6 on Wed Oct 07, 2009 2:35 pm

I have my annual blood work done with my OB/GYN each year. I just received a call from her office telling me -no, URGING me - to seek my family practitioner's help for my high cholesterol. My total cholesterol is 244 (yes, high). However, my HDL is excellent at 117. My LDL is 120 - kind of high, I guess, Triglycerides at 37 (very low according to what I have read) and a VLDL of 7 (no idea, but think it must be good). Is it necessary to seek attention for this, or would it be okay to make a few changes in diet and exercise to help reduce it and wait until next year to see if my efforts worked. I am a 40 year old female who is in relatively good shape ,(5 ft 2in) 114 lbs, and have no other health issues.
