Stroke and no therapy

My dad had a stroke in October of 2006. He has been back & forth from nursing home rehab to the hospital. But lately, he’s been in the hospital because unfortunately is on a t-piece and require dialysis 3 times a week, no nursing home will accept him. I was told that most nursing home does not provide in-house dialysis and he would have to be transported back & forth, which the doctor does not recommend.
According to his case worker, it has to do with the cost, medicaid payment...Read the full article

I get so angry when I talk about health insurance in the US. If your father could benefit from more care it should be provided. I'm sure he worked hard all his life and even if that were not the case, everyone should be provided with whatever care can improve their quality of life.
My husband had a major stroke last week (age 64). He turns 65 on the 10th of February so will be then primarily covered by Medicare. Your story scares me because I know I'll have problems with insurance coverage and the limits of coverage. He is already so depressed and fearful and so am I (I'm 56). We were both very young looking and acting and were looking forward to the next several years of our time alone as all of our children are now grown. The worst part of this... we live in northern Maine where the medical care is not particularly good. My husband was told by his primary physician that he could go off his blood thinner for ten days so that he could have elective oral surgury. She didn't consult with his cardiologist. I was away at the time so i didn't really know what he was being told to do. He had his surgury but that night he had his stroke. Now I worry about how I can afford to readapt our home so that he can go back. We are both disabled so the money needed is not there. I'll do whatever I can...fundraisers, agencies assistance, etc. With my disability, I will need help to manage him physically so I'm sure that will be more $$$$.
I need to vent so I guess I am doing it here. Don't get me wrong...I want a single payer health insurer like medicare so everyone can be insured, but it needs to cover more. No one should have to discontinue treatment because of money. Our country can cut back somewhere else, not medical care.
