stroke of 86 year old woman

Post a new topicby shimerin on Sat Jan 17, 2009 11:27 am

Hi,
My mother was admitted to hospital Christmas day 2008 with a chest infection within hours she was diagnosed with a stroke, she is semi conscious but has not spoke she can hear and can open her eyes for short periods of time, her eyes looked cloudy the 1st few time, now they have their full colour. The stroke seems to have hit her eye lids only as she still has full movement in her body left and right, the doctors have told us that the stroke occured on one side of her brain and her brain stem, she is getting pain relief but only because they dont know if she is in pain or not, they told us she had hours if not days to live. What concerns me is they are waiting for an infection to set in because they are not going to treat it but they will continue to give her pain relief and fluids to keep her comfortable, she has good input and out put I understand that she will never lead a good life basically she is as the term says a Vegetable, but shes my Mum its like natural euthanasia, has anyone else ever heard of this.

Thanks for listening

I am based in the Uk and maybe preservation of life is different in various countries but I would be interested to know
