having hair loss living in air force base housing

Post a new topicby lisamarieandlarry on Thu Dec 27, 2007 9:25 pm

I started losing hair in Nov 2006. The doctors said it was due to having a baby in Aug 2006, stress or weight loss. Because it was my 5th baby and I always had new hair growth, I knew it wasn't that. At the same time, my baby was getting respiratory infections, my family had headaches, sinus infections, concentration and memory problems. The duplex neighbors had the same problems. In May 2007 the duplex neighbor's baby stopped breathing one night when my own baby was breathing rough at night. The next day we all moved to a hotel on base until a mold inspection was done. The mold levels weren't unsafe but we all were allowed to move for "piece of mind" but they couldn;'t tell us what caused the symptoms. We were on base in a hotel for 2 months until another similar house was available. My 2 daughters and I had new hair growth and the baby breathed so quietly at night for the first time in his life it took getting used to. As soon as we moved to this other house, the headaches started. My baby started having a runny nose in the house and in town and in the car it would turn dry and crusty. He had allergy testing which showed he's only allergic to common types of mold which wasn't found in our other house. The hair loss started in my young daughters and I. I bought a radon detector and the levels were between 14.8 and 18.2. They let us move immediately back to the hotel on base until a radon reduction system was put in a month later. Again, new hair started growing and I videotaped the new growth right before we moved out. This time when we moved back, there were no headaches or memory problems. But the hair loss started. The new hair growth from both times in the hotel are falling out. They are too short to be coming out with brushing so I'm panicking because I don't know what's causing it. It's not just me. It's my daughter and step-daughter also. And my baby is back on amoxicillan today because he's so stopped up and coughing. We've had blood and urine test and they tested my hair but I don't know what they asked it to be tested for. I heard today that military doctors are forbidden to test for nuclear things. Could it possibly be something like that that they know not to test for? IT's not radon or VOC's since the radon reduction system should take that out. It's not mold. We have an air purifier. We have carbon monoxide detectors. What should I ask a civilian doctor to test for that the military won't? There are other females on base who are losing hair and don't know why and they don't have high radon levels. I've got to find out what it is. We can't just move because how do I know it's not something in our furniture. We did have mold in our other base house but I was told it shouldn't be in furniture. They removed the mold from inside our ceiling and then did the mold testing so I don't know if that mold was the dangerous kind. So, please help if you can. I'm all alone in the fight for my family's health.
