please...any suggestions?

Post a new topicby bmes on Sat Feb 09, 2008 11:12 am

I am new to this forum. I wasn't sure WHERE to put this post....I posted this topic in another area too....but it doesn't seem to active in there. I'm a sahm to a 21 month old daughter and an 8 month old son. My daughter, ever since she was 6 months old, never seems to have a peaceful sleep. about 3 times a week she'll wake up about 2 hours after going to sleep. she screams at the top of her lungs and thrashes around. but yet, she doesn't seem to be awake. I've never had a problem getting her to go down to sleep. but I'll put her down for the night at about 8pm, and like clockwork, wakes up between 10pm and 11pm. It's takes about 20 minutes for her to calm down. either she falls asleep right after, OR, it seems like she "comes to" and is totally fine....happy, laughing, talking.....and the nights when she DOESN'T do this, she tosses and turns and whines all night.....ALSO, everyday i put her for a nap at around 2pm, and I would say almost everyday she wakes up automatically screaming and crying. she gets even more mad when I try to hold her. she'll just roll around and kick and scream and tense her entire body screaming......she's also pretty sweaty too...even though she's not bundled up in anything too warm. her room is always a comfortable temperature. I make sure of this....anyways, this always lasts for about 20-30 minutes....then it's like night and day....she'll just immediately stop crying, and she's a totally happy girl. like nothing ever happened. I've talked to the doctor several times about this, but she never seems concerned about it. To me, it's just disturbing to watch. it's like she's possesed or something. like she's not there. I have been dealing with this day in and day out, and i'm just getting so tired of it, and don't know where or HOW to find the answers I need. I feel so bad for her. I just wish she could have a peaceful sleep....any idea what this may be, so i can do some research on my own, as to what to do and how to deal with this....cause i'm not getting any help from the doc. she thinks it's no big deal. but she doesn't see what I see....

I hope this helps you even a little bit. I saw something similar to this on "Mystery Diagnosis" on Discovery Health. If you go to that site maybe you can try to look up episodes. It was about a little girl who would wake up screaming, sounding quite similar to your daughter unfortunately I don't remember what her diagnosis was. I went to the site and didn't see a listing for that episode so I guess this doesn't really help- sorry.

I recall that episode. The little girl had a facial neuritis of some sort. It was a condition rare to be seen in babies. I don't recall the treatment but I think they were able to help her out.
